VAT (Security Light Flashing)

Whats up guys, I have my security light flashing on me right now. The car is in a no start condition. Orignially, I did not see the light was flashing so I went out and spent $150 on a new starter, put it in, same thing. Thats when I got done talking to my buddy about the Vehicle Anti-Thieft System (VAT) and I noticed my security light kept flashing. Check the manual, it said try a differnt key or go to GM dealer and have a new key made due to a possible bad resister chip in the key. I did that, same problem. So after looking at some wirring diagrams, it can only be one of two things. The sensor in the switch is bad and isn't reading the chip in the key, or the VAT mod itself is messing up. I had the car towed to the shop, and they are looking into it for me. I think it is the swith, and they are just going to bypass it by cutting the lines and placing in the right ohms resistor to make the VAT mod think the key is in the switch. I was just wondering if you guys had any thoughts over the whole situation. Any feed back would be great, frankly, I pretty pissed off and the damn worthless security system right now. Thanks guys.

Not uncommon for the contacts that touch the resistor in the key to go bad.

Re: VAT (Security Light Flashing)

It's actually a very effective security system. The only flaw (as you've seen) is the wires in the lock cylinder can wear out and break in time.

I would of replaced the lock cylinder, but that's just me. They arent that hear to replace if you have a steering wheel puller and a lock plate compressor.

Bypassing the system like you did is an effective solution, but you are no longer protected by the VATS.

I know, I just didn't want to spend $500 dollars, and if someone really wants my car, they will know about the VAT system anyway and do what I did. Oh well. Thanks for the feed back guys.
