used parts worth it?

Hey,
when buying used parts, would anyone agree that one shouldn't pay more than half of what it is new, after that you might as well spend the extra for a brand new unit?
Does it depend on what its for?
thanks
Daniel

Depends on the part, how many miles on it and if something is easily replaceable, like a filter.

I agree that it depends on the part. Some part don't really wear at all so wether it is new or used with 50k miles it will still perform the same. Getting back to your post I guess that is a good rule of thumb to use.

I guess it really depends what it is, but generally I don't like buying used parts, its just too much of a risk and you don't know what kind of shape its really in. For example, my friend just bought a procharger, but the blower needs a rebuild and is leaking oil...

Depends on the part. I woudnt buy used WP, Opti, plugs, etc. I would buy used catback, headers, CAI, etc.

Please post on the correct forum.... a question like this doesn't belong on "LT1/LT4 Engine Tech". Moving to "General F-Body Tech....."
