Under Curve Power

Can someone explain to how to find "Under the Curve Power" and exactly what it is?

For example on this graph (http://ws6.com/mod-4.htm) it says there was an "average here gained 5.3 horsepower! and 1.9 ft/lbs torque" but I don't see anywhere on the dynograph that shows an increase of 5.3 HP. I tried searching but couldn't find much info on reading "Under the Curve Power/Average Power".

Thanks guys.

Peak horsepower (highest HP at one point in the rpm range) is what most guys focus on. Area under the curve speaks to how much HP you made across the entire rpm range. One could have a higher peak value, but make less overall power as the other could be making more HP across the range, just with a lower peak value.

This is why people say the joke what do a 400horse supra and a 800 horse supra have in common? They both run 12s. Most people think an 800 horse dyno queen is cool but you could have a 400 horse car run a second faster if it had agood setup. Peak hp isnt everything, especially if your car is lethargic until 6000rpm
