True Duals going on next Friday, Need opinions.

Hello all, Next Friday I will be going to a local muffler shop to install a true dual exhaust system on my 98 Z28.

Here is the setup:

Hooker Ceramic Coated LT's, 2.5" pipes, X-Pipe, w/ 2 12" Dynomax Bullett mufflers (Turndowns), No cats.

I know this setup will wake the dead, however I am wondering what kind of tone it will have. Also, Is this setup going to get me in any trouble w/ the cops under normal acceleration?

Thanks!

I guess the best would have to include not so much police interaction. In cali. they are really onto the whole racing thing because it has become so big. Most of the time (here in norcal at least) when the runs are broken up everybody just moves to a different spot, usually in a different town because when the cops come they can't catch everybody. I did here of a place an hour from here though where when the cops came they blocked everyone in and wrote quite a few tickets.

Do people get hassled that much in other states?

This should be the lounge.

Loony, You confused me.

99BlackSS, I live in FL and we dont do emissions tests anymore. The only thing I really have to worry about is the noise ordinance. I dont street race anymore and I work in the communications bereau for a local Police Dept. The Officer's here say they usually dont write tickets for loud exhausts unless they are being an *** out of themselves. I am more worried about when I pass thru other cities.

We will see how it goes, I will also post some sound clips.

around town, and in city streets i think you'll find it a bit too much noise.

specially when it starts reverberating off the buildings

think of normal exhausts setting off alarms in parking garages

I said that cause you made a poll....I was just wondering what the question was. Because the question that you asked could not be answered with the States you listed in the poll. Am I still not making sence? Man...I need to take some speech classes err somthing.

teke184, Ya I know it is going to be LOUD around buildings and stuff. I drive people insane at the Orlando Int'l Airport revving my Ravin Exhaust so I can just imagine how loud this setup will be.

Loony, I gotcha this time! Sorry about the confusion!

Exhaust

The only problem I have run into in the Orlando,FL area is that the officers think you are racing even when you arn't. Here an example.

I have a 2001 LS1 Camaro with Hooker LT's with the Hooker off road y-pipe and SLP Loudmouth exhaust. You really can't get any louder unless you run open headers.

I pulled out of a restaurant the other day very slow due to the rain and I have drag radials with a buddie following. A officer had just passed and was sitting at a light. My friend and I pull out going the other way. I made sure to pull out slow enough where the drone was not any louder than a stock car with Loudmouth. I get about a mile away and Here comes the police. Pulled me and my buddie over. He asked why I did that and I asked what he was talking about. He said I was racing and he was going to take me to jail and my buddie ( who was right BEHIND me). I laughed and said I never got up to 30 MPH. I told him I wasn't stupid that I saw him just pass and If I was racing he would have never caught up with me in a 1 miles time. I asked him to give me a better reason because the only thing he could get me for LEAGALY was the exhaust which is probably what he had heard that made him think we were racing. Well, he finally agreed and let me go with a $66. ticket and no points that was for "starting from a stop position to quickly". He stated that was the cheapest ticket he could have given but, he had to give me something being he called for back up which about 4 cars rolled up including a supervisor. I guess it beats a exhaust ticket.

Two days later another officers pulles me over at Taco Bell saying the exhaust was too loud and that he had more important people to give tickets to. I think he just wanted to check out the car.

I guess it really depends on the officer and how much of an *** he wants to be. Most in Orlando are pretty good.
