True Dual Exhaust

I'm planning on installing LT headers and completely redoing the exhaust. I want a true dual set-up. Do any of you here have this kind of set up on your 94-97 z28s? If so, underbody pictures would be greatly appreciated. Also, if anyone knows of any problems i may encouter, please inform me. Thanks!

Re: True Dual Exhaust

Welcome to the forum

As I'm sure others will tell you, exhaust topics are usually beaten to death. Try using the search function on the page and you will find TONS of information. Then if there are any unanswered questions, make a post explaining the problem.

Search: "true duals"

also, the most typical problem is usually an issue with ground clearance, this is usually with lowered cars though, if you're at stock ride height(and plan to stay there) you should be fine. Also, if you opt to have them "dump" underneath the car, then it will be cheaper, but will cause more interior resonance. People usually do this because it is cheaper than taking the tubing up and over the axle to exit out the rear.

Re: True Dual Exhaust

If your going to have a shop welding/intsalling anything, I would reccomened finding one in advance that will be willing to do it before wasting money like I did. I had everything ready to take to the shop and have it ran under the axel, mufflers, headers, x pipe and tips. 10+ shops wouldnt touch it because of the lack of cats. I wasted a whole lot of money.

Re: True Dual Exhaust

some are on manifolds, some LTs, i think some are LS1s

not to mention the Hpipe or Xpipe

how bout this rumber X from TSP. i think these pics are for the LS1 version (driverside collector points out) but the idea is the same.

Re: True Dual Exhaust

anything over the axle is high $$$$$

seen a couple companies sell them over the years...not sure where any more. but they were all $1000+

here is a link to pics of the Bassani true duals, over the axle setup.

not sure where to get it or the $$

Re: True Dual Exhaust

After doing the research, i'm starting to lean away from true dual. I'm sure it would be great, but since my LT1 isn't highly modified, it doesn't seem applicable to my car. Plus the cost alone is scary. I now have my eye on the Corsa cat-back system, with pacesetter LT's. Can anyone link me to a good Y-pipe? I'm expecting to pay about $1100.00 - $1200.00 for my set-up. Upon visiting the Corsa website, you can go to a page that plays audio tracks of their system on the LT1 and LS1. It has a pretty aggressive sound at WOT, but also keeps a quieter, lower drone when idling. I think this will be the route I take. Any suggestions?

Re: True Dual Exhaust

you make good points, although even bolt-on LT1s and LS1s will benefit from true duals.

not saying you need mammoth 3" pipes...but 2.5" would be fine. not to mention you'd save some ground clearance.

the advantage of the duals over a single 3" system is in the top end. down low they are about the same. but the upper RPM flow of true duals is more efficient.

but if interior drone is a concern....duals dumpped at the axle is not the way to go.
and over the axle is just insanely $$$$

Re: True Dual Exhaust

I've got a 95 Z with a true dual setup. I'm having distributor problems currently and can not get you pics, but once i'm up and running again I could e-mail you some. Its a dual 3" setup with 40 series delta flow mufflers. Not much ground clearance but they're not make to take off road anyway.
