Trans Am vs Camaro: Weight?

What are the stock weights of the WS6 Trans Am vs. a Camaro Z28? Both 1996's. I swear my Z was faster than my WS6. The Z had a cold air and magnaflow.

The t/a has more weight to it from the hatch and ground effects. Probly another 100lbs or so.

Re: Trans Am vs Camaro: Weight?

The T/A is heavier. The T/A comes with leather and power everything, which adds weight, plus the car is heavy to begin with.

My WS6, with a full tank of gas and nobody inside ... 3575 Pounds

Re: Trans Am vs Camaro: Weight?

Im pretty sure the main thing is the weight of the ground effects, other than that, take that off and you have a pretty close curb weight.

The side skirts weigh no more than a phone book each, and the hatch wing you can literally pick up with 1 finger. I know this from picking them up at a junkyard. People make it seem like they have the mass of a 45lbs weight.

Re: Trans Am vs Camaro: Weight?

According to Edmunds.com-

Formula - 3452
Z28 - 3466
Trans Am - 3477

The number of options in the car will make more of a difference than what type it is.

Re: Trans Am vs Camaro: Weight?

GreenDemon ... interesting. I wonder how Edmunds calculates curb weight. ???

I weighed my car at the I-40 weigh station near Brownsville, TN (Thanks Sgt. King!). It's 100 pounds over Edmunds. Full tank, no passenger, no luggage. Standard T/A options (which is pretty much every Firebird option available ... leather, A/C, M6 tranny, T-Tops, Monsoon, CD-Changer, etc ... )

This is very interesting to me, weighed Sara (2001 Z28 beefed up BMR suspension parts, and sub frame connectors) on a calibrated truck scale , and she came out as 3250 lbs (no one sitting in seats).
