Too Expensive install???

Been looking at headers for my X'mas present to myself. Stopped by top of the line local shop, acc. store with Mustang Dyno, separate exhaust and muffler shop. Guy told me he would give me price as if he was doing his own car and call me back. Just called me with a price of $2150.00 This was for Hooker longtubes with emission hookups cermanic coated, Y pipe with new converter and all installed. Said the labor part is $600.00 as this car is a pain to work on and he's figuring on hard to get out exhaust bolts. Still seems high to me. Anybody know of any good local shops in the northern Delaware are or just over the PA line. This guy is in Aston PA which is about 8 miles from me.

The parts you might try and get yourself.. Shop around and save money.... As far as the labor, it seems about right.....

my coated pacesetters with y only cost 525. add like 150 for cats if you really need 'em, 25 for oem gaskets, 30 for 1 inch arp bolts, and find a shop who will do it for less

I've heard Pacesetters only last a couple of years, and have fitment problems. I plan on keeping the car for a long time as I feel the nose on the 93-97 Z makes it the best looking 4th gen. Don't mind spending a little more just don't want to get raped.

I would never pay that much for labor on anything but a transmission or complete engine rebuild. Just buy the tools you need and do it yourself, you'll appreciate it much more then anyway.

a trans is so, so much easier imo, especially a manual. although i do think it may be just a little high. figuring with a 80 per hour labor rate that is like 7.5 hours

Look at tybrne motorsports(they are a sponsor on this site) because they have kooks on sale right now and they are considerably less than what what he wants to charge you for hookers.

He's got an automatic, so there's no way he'd be able to do anything major to it at home by himself. I've did a longtube install with my buddy on his TA, it wasn't near as horrible as we prepared for.

A Buddy of mine has the Kooks on his Mustang and swears they are the only headers to get. Plus I've only read good things about them on this site. I just know most shops hate it if you show up with your own parts. I work alot of hours and have a six yr old daughter so my time is limited to work on it plus I've been known to be hamfisted and break stuff when I get wrenches in my hand. Short fuse + arm strength + no patience = broken parts.

I heard getting the bolts out is a nightmare and that you need special tools. Plus it looks like it would be impossible to do off of jackstands in my small 1 car garage.

I live in Dover De and could get it done for ya for quite a bit less if you get the parts.
