Todo list for a 86 Z28
Todo list for a 86 Z28
Hey,
Well, i just bought an 86 Z28. Its a 4BBL 5.7L that is for the most part stock. There is a mild cam, Edelbrock Performer intake, and the obligatory Flowmaster.
So, this is my question: What are the first things that you would do to this car? I am getting a job within the next month or so, and was wondering what your performance considerations might be. I live in the student suburb of Santa Barbara, CA (Isla Vista) and am looking to make this thing kick a little ***, so what would you recommend? I was thinking Headers as the first thing, but then what do I know about it?
Thanks in advance, although my posts are low, i read these forums daily and really enjoy them.
-edit-
on a side note, the 5.7 was a crate drop-in. the car is a TH700R4. peace.

On a side note, any other camaro owners in this area? 3rd gen specifically. I see a bunch of 98+ on the highway, just seeing if anyone lives in the Santa Barbara / Goleta area.
Re: Todo list for a 86 Z28
you have to comply with emissions correct? that makes a big differnece.
i would look into suspension parts and rear gears, and definatly a stall converter. a good stall is easily capable of droping 1/2 sec off your 1/4mi time.
i would do a full tune up, including a new distributer to get the timing dead on.
oh and get a cutout to bypass that flowmaster.

As of the 21st im getting KYB Gas shocks and struts, and Eibach pro-kit springs. What exactly is a cutout? Got a new distributor, plugs, and wires, and set my timing perfect (after replacing an incorrect dampener
)
What gears would you recommend? I know someone who is parting out a camaro, has a wierd posi config i hadnt heard of (3.96?) or something.
What is a stall converter, and what specifications do i need to look at when buying one?
Oh, and Cali emissions standards are ****. I had to dick with my carburator all day to get it to pass smog.
Thanks in advance for the help.
