timing

Pushrod engines do not have timing belts, they have chains. It's not an OHC engine with a rubber timing belt. How many miles does your car have?
EDIT: I just read your signature, did you purchase the car with all those mods? What's a superchip? You can't "chip" an LS engine. You need to start doing alot of research because it sounds like you don't know much about your modded car.

Not sure why some people feel they have to give this guy a hard time.
He simply used the work timing "belt" in place of timing "chain". The use of gear drive timing sets is not unusual for Gen 1 SBC's, had been tried in Gen 2 SBC's (LT1) with poor results. Not sure if anyone makes a gear drive timing set for the LSx engine family. Big problem is the ungodly noise, and the interference with the knock sensors on a computer controlled engine. Maybe someone could provide him with this info relative to the LS1.
Superchip makes a hand-held MicroTuner for the LSx family of engines. I suspect that's what he listed for his mods. Again, why dump on the guy, who is simply asking for help.
Really disappointing.

hey thanks Injuneer. lol. and yes, i meant chain. and yes it does have that chip. and yes gears would raise hell with the knock sensor but thats why im asking. pete jackson makes one for this motor. and just like how they make o2 simulators, maybe, just maybe they have something for those knock sensors as well......
But its not a "chip". Its a hand-held programmer that plugs into the ALDL connector temporarily, to make changes to the PCM program. There is no removable chip in any 4th Gen after 1993.
You wouldn't need a knock sensor simulator. You would have the knock sensors "tuned out" of the PCM.
Just curious... why would you want the complications of a gear driven timing set? I saw a very detailed comparison of a conventional chain, a toothed belt and a gear set in Engine Masters magazine, and the main difference between them was the ability to alter the cam advance. There was no significant performance advantage for any of the systems.
