Test to find ammonia?

I read somewhere that some windshield washing fluids contain ammonia. Is there a way to test a fluid for ammonia?

Re: Test to find ammonia?

Ammonia is common in the kinds of cleaners you use on the windows like Windex. Its OK to use it on the outside of the window, but you don't want to use it on the inside if you have tint. It will turn the tint purple. You should be able to find a bottle of Windex that specifically says "ammonia free".

Is that what you were concerned about?

I don't think they use it in the typical solvent/anti-freeze that you put in your windshield washers.... that is usually a form of alcohol.

correct, typical automotive windshield washer solvent uses methanol. which is posionous, so don't drink it either, lol

If for whatever reason you still question weather something still has amonia.
Smell it! That smell is pretty hard to cover up.
