Terrible water leak....need some help!

hi, i have a terrible leak on my passenger side. i have ttops but i'm not certain its coming from there. it rained like crazy in Houston yesterday. my passenger floorboard had about 2 inches of water in the front and the rear area was soaked. i guess this isn't that uncommon with ttops. however, the front part of my headliner was soaked!! it was wet from side to side and about 8 inches back. water was dripping from the headliner onto my console and hvac unit. i noticed some water dripping from the a-pillar, too. i took my t-tops off and didn't notice any water/moisture in that area. is it possible that the windshield weather strip is leaky? just wondering if anyone has had a problem with the front part of the headliner getting soaked from a heavy rain. thanks for any help.

Re: Terrible water leak....need some help!

does anyone know what the metal piece in the center (where the tops meet at the center of the roof) is called? its just a black metal bracket with 8 screws to the roof. the forward edge of this (its a molded rubber) is cracked. i'm not sure but i suppose the water could be coming in from there. i doubt this piece is expensive but i have no idea of the proper name for it. thanks

get a water hose and just mess with it. you will eventually find it. sorry, that is the best you can do.

You could have more than one leak... The seal on the t-tops obviously has a problem if the headliner is wet, but water in the rear foot well could be from a plugged body drain. Feel under the car andsee if you can slipe a long plastic wiretie up there. You will find several drain vents. If they are dry then the water is coming from somewhere else. If you water comes out you may want to blow out the drains to be safe.

When my pass window motor was starting to fail I had that problem. The window did not raise completely - even though I thought it was fully seated it wasn't. I got lots of water when that happened. Don't overlook the obvious first.

How long have had the car? Have you had the windshield replaced? Look between the headliner and the w/s from the inside, if it is the w/s you will be able to see white discoloration from where the water has been coming in.

Re: Terrible water leak....need some help!

its a '96. bought it new in Nov. of '95. it has the original windshield and all other seals/weather stripping. i put a thin layer of black silicone around the seals on the roof/ttop area. hopefully, that will fix the problem for a little while. all of the door and ttops seals are very expensive new. thanks for all of the help/advice.
