Terrible Gas Mileage

My 1995 firebird is getting about 11 mpg in town. Distributor, wires and plugs are new. Fuel pump presure at idle is 38 psi.

What to look for next?

Check the O2 sensors.

Check for exhaust leaks before the O2 sensors.

Check the coolant temp sensor accuracy (the one in the water pump housing).

Do you have any indication of misfires?

Have you scanned it for codes?

O2 Sensors should be good since they are about 1 1/2 years and less than 1000 miles old.

Don't hink there are exhaust leaks since manifold gaskets are about 1 1/2 years old and y pipe was recently reattached after motor mount change.

Could be collant temp sensor since it takes what seems like a long time for idle to kick down as it warms up.

Check engine light comes on occasionally

Just noticed pipe from EGR valve to exhaust manifold is missing.

Thasks.

Appears you don't want to bother checking the O2 sensors or exhaust. Appears you haven't scanned it. You have a piece of the exhaust missing, so unless someone installed blockoff plates when they removed it, you have an exhaust leak.

That about all I can offer to help you. The rest is up to you. Good luck.

Things can go bad. On my 89 Formula I went through 3 fuel pumps in less than 2 years. I assumed that it had to be something else since it was new. Also I did wires not even 3000 miles ago and my headers melted the #5 wire. You unfortunately have to check things and an ses light should shed some light if you hook up a scan tool.
