Temp cooling fan(s) should come on?
Temp cooling fan(s) should come on?
Hello,
First post here, bought a '94 Z28 last Thursday. Seems to have run cool (190-195 ish) until tonight. Now it wants to climb in temp sitting still, comes down in temp while moving. Doesn't appear the fans are coming on, wondering if anyone knows what temp the fans typically come on, what triggers them and where they get their power source? Swapped relays around and changed nothing...
Thanks in advance,
Brian

I believe the stock turn on temps are around 212 and 224 or so. These are warm running motors. The PCM commands them on via the signal it's recieving from the ECT in the water pump. They also come on when you turn on the A/C.
Thanks for the replies. Looks like I may have jumped the gun a bit, fans do come on but coolant temp has to reach 225-230, higher than I had expected. I didn't let it get that high earlier to see the fans cycle.
Excellent article shoe, bookmarked it just in case...
Thanks again,
Brian

in no way trying to thread jack but in shoebox's writeup posted above it is saying that fans on while on the highway can alter the cooling capabilities? is this true cause i have noticed a few times when my fan switch is on on the highway it will get hotter than driving around the regular streets and neighborhoods
my bro had this problem w/ his 3rdgen formula.
is ur fan belt driven or electric? if its electric u can install a kill switch on the center console or somethin..and u can turn it on and off at will. the prev. owner of my iroc put one of those in.
