Tell me about swapping a vin number

on the 4-th gens where are the vin numbers located? just on the dash?

Basicly what i want to do is but a roller car and put my engine trans interior into it because my car has been in 2 crashes in the last month.

However i know that i wont pass an inspection with the mods i have so im thinking about just swapping the vin over to the new car. I know this is tecnicly illegal however i am basicly switching every thing over from my car to the other (thats my reasoning)

Would this even be posable?
What if the car had to go through inspection years later would they be able to prove the vins where switched?

sounds like a no-no to me. there are TONS of VIN tags all over the car. true, most of them are difficult to access, but they are there, and if someone of authority finds that the VIN has been tampered with, you could be in some serious trouble. maybe. i don't know, i'm not a laywer, but it's not worth it IMO.

the VIN tags i'm talking about are the printed paper ones found inside of fenders, under carpet, etc etc.

even if you do switch the dash VIN tag, the other major tag i can think of right now is/are the tag/s in the door jamb, and probably the RPO code list.

there are numbers stamped in metal also its not as simple as swapping over a tag here and a sticker there.

an insurance claim on a retagged vehicle can be consitered fraud

retagging is legal nowhere in the world

save time and money by applying for a title through a national service.

Switching vin plates is a serious offense. I am pretty sure its a felony in all 50 states. Part of my job is inspecting vehicles that people buy out of state and bring back to KY to get it registered and licensed here or salavage titles that have been repaired. There are numerous vin tags on all cars now days especailly the high theft models. GM vin tags also have a bar code.
