TB Bypass Question
TB Bypass Question
I've read the many threads on it, but one thing was never made clear...After I remove the two coolant hoses going into the throttle body and join them together with a 3/8" metal hose and clamps, what about the hose ports? Do I just leave them open? Or do I plug them somehow? And am I to understand that no coolant will be going throgh the throttle body after this is done, only air?
Re: TB Bypass Question
On the LT1 engine, coolant flows in one port and out the other, therefore when you bypass the TB, nothing flows through it. No need to cap off the ports on the TB; some rubber vacuums cpas will keep the spiders out
Re: TB Bypass Question
I've seen dyno sheets that say different. On a website I found that details instructions of doing it.
Buuuut, let's not start that debate again. Let's just agree that it is subjective.

Re: TB Bypass Question
It still doesn't make sense to me that no coolant will make it cooler, but I'll try anyhow, possibly take it off if something isn't right, thi is my daily driver afterall. Good find on the dyno sheet.

Even though it's called coolant... it's still, what? 230 *F? Much hotter than the TB will ever get if the coolant isn't running through it.
And FWIW, doing the TB bypass doesn't gain you xHP (I've heard anywhere from 1-7HP) Rather it prevents you from losing it once the coolant starts circulating, which heats the incomming air.

Not wise to race your car if it's not up to operating temperature, which means your coolant temperature will be 180 +.

Re: TB Bypass Question
yeah but its going though there for a reason. I could see if you lived down here in the southern states and in the summer months but now that its winter I would really be affraid of the TB icing over, yes I have herd of it happening before. Especialy if you lived in the northner states. But i'll drop it at that its a controversial subject and every one has their own opinions on the matter.
