Are the T-Tops cool? Do they rattle leak etc.

I love my t-tops! T-top leaks can easily be cured with new rubber fittings... they arent too expensive.

Mine don't rattle or leak...and most LS1's will have them. Make sure you get the sun shades too, you'll need them in the summer.

No rattles or leaks on mine. If you're looking for a daily or weekend driver, get the T-tops. If you're looking to build a race car go hard top.

Re: T-Top or Hardtop

I haven't had any "issues" with my t-tops It's nice having the option of letting the sun in on nice days too. I agree too about making sure you also have the shades...will help keep the car a little cooler during the summer.

Hard tops are nice too...I think they're rarer, but not sure.

Re: T-Top or Hardtop

I have t-tops, and they do leak a little little tiny bit. I blame it on the Florida sun, which cooks rubber. But for the three drips of water I get per hour of rain, I'll take them. The hours of enjoyment of having the t-tops down, listening to the exhaust makes it worth it. Unless you're getting a car to turn into a serious race car that needs as much chassis rigidity as you can get, go for t-tops!

Re: T-Top or Hardtop

My t-tops used to leak at about the same rate as Abe's, but after I installed new power window motors, they no longer leak because there's a tighter seal in place.

When you're driving with your windows down and the t-tops in, if you put your finger at the gap where the front of the t-top meets the back of windshield, you can feel it slightly moving. This is why it's VERY important to keep them locked.

Like the others said, t-tops are great, the car looks cool with them out and chics dig 'em.

No leaks here, just a light creak/squeeking though...
Definitely worth it though on nice days..., which is year round here in San Diego!

Amen, Bruddah. I use a little Armorall now and then, and the rubber stays pretty healthy. I have had no leaks so far on my '02, and the '96 and '85 F-bods were leak free, as well. I haven't noticed any rattling either. T-tops are definitely the way to go! At least in San Diego. Our F-bodies are year-round vehicles.

Mark, time to charm in?... Uh, yeah, you want to keep them locked. My old neighbor, Mark, lost a t-top on an IIRC '98 T/A because it wasn't locked properly on the way home from buying it. He almost lost both but had quick enough hands to save the driver's side.

Re: T-Top or Hardtop

I've got the same "few drops" every once in awhile during a heavy rain, but I don't know if it would be much different even with a hard-top? As far as leaks in and around the middle of the roof though, NONE. And I always use the pressure washer on my car too! A bit of water will get through the seal along the top of the side windows, but only if you spray DIRECTLY at them.

I love my T-tops, just never got to pull them off as much this year (no time to wash car, so I can't stand trying to "show-off" a dirty P.O.S.!!)

Re: T-Top or Hardtop

My 4th gen used to leak on the passenger side, but put some grease across the stripping and now it's just a few little drops. I'll probably replace the rubber soon if it starts to anymore. I'd go with T-tops over hardtop.

Not a fan of T-Tops or sunroofs. I had the pleasure of a 1997 BMW M3 Sedan that was one of the very rare models without the sunroof, and I was proud and glad of it.

Unfortunately, my '99 SS has T-Tops. There's not enough of them in good shape and for a good price like this one was for me to have rejected it because of the T-Tops. They don't leak or rattle, I will give it credit (of course, I've never taken them off). 95% of LS1s will have the T-Tops so really, this is a non-discussion. If you find a very rare LS1 without the T-Tops, it would be something unique.
