Swap from 93-96 cluster to a 97+ cluster?
Does anyone know if the 97+ gauge cluster uses the same connectors and would work with a PCM from a 93-96 camaro? I know they're different shapes/sizes, but I plan on replacing my entire cluster, dash, and center console from my 93 Camaro to a 97-02 setup. I like the 97+ center console better, but if I can recall, I don't think it would work as a direct replacement with a 93-96 dash design, which is why I am looking into replacing everything. I like the 97+ gauge cluster better anyways. Can anyone offer some helpful information here?

Seeing as how you're a 93, this was just discussed over on www.speeddensity.org. The thread is here.
Basically, a 97 cluster WILL work. On the 93, and 93's only, you much remove the tach filter in order for the tach to work correctly. It's a little box located in the wiring harness right near the coil. What you will have to put up with though, is a constant on Fasten Seat Belt guy and TCS OFF light. It's easy enough to disassemble the new cluster and block off those lights though. Also, aparrently there's a shop in the DFW area that CAN reprogram the digital odometer now, but they must have a notarized odometer verification form from your car with the current mileage on it in order to legally accomplish the odometer reprogram. Cheap though, only like $40-50 bucks if I remember right.

So, only a 97's will work, right? 98-02 uses different connectors or requires a different PCM? Remember that the 97's have the same interior as the 98+...

as far as i know (and thats not saying much) an odometer is a sealed unit. it just receives so many "pulses" for each mile, and increments itself. the "analog" odometer should still be electronic, it just has an analog display, whereas the digital one substitutes led's for the number wheels.

The cluster is just plug and play (with exception to the 93 tach filter removal). Just pull the bezel straight off, remove the four ( I think, been a while since I've been in there) retaining bolts from the cluster, pull the old cluster out and detach the wiring harness, then put the new one in, in reverse order.

i know this is an old post but... how exactly do you remove the tach filter. do you connect the 2 white wires and ground the black or what?

Expect to spend most of a day swapping out the dash rearranging the cluster plug and rerouting everything. If you want to you can get a 93-97 TA/Bird cluster and its wired the same as a 97+ Camaro console and will bolt right into the 97+ dash.
