Storeing a car outside?

Hey all...well it looks like if i ever get my car fixed i wont be able to store it in my grandmothers garage (i cant keep it at my apartment since i dont have enough spaces) Now i can put it next to my grandmothers garage but it will be on grass.

I know i am supposed to jack it up and take the tires off etc, however, i have to get in the car and start it every so often and wont that be unstable with the jacks? also wont the jacks slip if i put then on grass or if i lay a piece of plywood down wont that decay and become unstable as well?

How do you all recomend i should store it outside. I just dont want my floor pans to turn into a pile of rust.

I was toying with the idea of getting one of those car enclosures like a tent. But that means it could collapse etc if the wind ever got bad. However, it would keep the snow off my car. But i dont know where to get one? The only place i have seen them is in the back of a hotrod mag.

What should i do?

The only reasons why you'd keep the tires off the ground is to prevent flat spots. You can just leave it as it sits and after a few miles of driving in the spring they will smooth out. Or if you want to have it up in the air you don't have to take the rims off, just keep it on the jackstands. Jackstands should be stable if you place them on something. If your concerned about plywood rotting just get some 12x12 patio blocks and put them under each stand. Make sure you put moth ***** in each tailpipe and by the intake and any other place you don't want mice to get into. The little bastards build nests everywhere. Also those tent garages are very nice, and most of them are built pretty well. So i wouldn't be too concerned about them caving. Just do a search for canvas garages or something. I believe they range from $400-$800 depending on size, material, etc. If your just opting for a cover, you can get a very nice one for around $160. Won't prevent against hail or freezing rain but should keep the snow and ice from scratching the paint. There are some padded covers to help against hail and things of the like, and also waterproof ones to prevent against wet weather. Those are usually more expensive. Also make sure you put a good full tank of gas in, preferrably premium. And it wouldn't hurt to put sta-bul in the tank as well. Good luck.

Thanks yeah i am debateing on getting a canvase garage or not...i am trying to see what its going to cost me to put it in a storage facility for about 5 months prob around 500 dollars since the going rate around here seems to be $75-100 dollars a month. Would i still want to put my car up on jackstands while its in the "canvase garage"? Or just park the car ontop of a tarp or something to keep moisture from soaking the undercarriage.

I plan on WD40'ing the whole frame, underbody, exhaust, all steel components etc. Wash it, wax it, change the oil.. polish the chrome. Changeing the oil etc. I am not too concerned by flat sports but more of my car sinking into the yard..lol

Re: Storeing a car outside?

If your in an area where your afraid of snow getting on your car, that means the ground should be frozen and their's no problems with the car sinking. If it's still a concern and if you still want to use those blocks I mentioned just park the tires on them instead of putting jackstands on them. The only reason for the jackstands is to prevent the flat spots on the tires. If you have no concern about them then there's no need. Also, although the elements promote rust, what really causes rust is all the salt and chemicals out on the road. If your car isn't being driven on the road during the winter months you shouldn't have much to worry about. It is a good idea to grease everything up and put a nice new fluid change through everything like you mentioned. Don't forget about the moth ***** and filling the tank. Trust me, you don't want little mice running rampant throughout your car while it's peacefully sitting.
