Re: storage tips????

I need to advice quick, they're saying 6" of snow by tommorow and I haven't put my car away yet

I usually just put plastic under my car (stored outside), but then a bunch of ice underneath the car, so running it up the sides sounds like a great idea. I plan to use some 10' wide stuff, so it goes up about a couple of feet per side, not sure if this idea was intended for inside or outside cars, which would get exposed snow, etc.

My question is, I have a good car cover, it was about $200, would putting a $20 walmart cover on it, and taping the plastic to it, then putting my regular cover over the top be a good idea? That way it would protect the plastic from the wind, and look a little better

I'm worried about it trapping moisture in the second cover, but there usually is moisture underneath anyway from snowfall, etc.

I'mm storing mine while away on deployment.

My father allways told me, and I've allways told him to fire it up once a week to keep the valve seals from drying out.. That and to keep the volts up...

It needs to be indoors for the visqueen wrapper to work. If it is outside exposed to precipitation the wrapper will allow in water from the top and it will pool up in the bottom. Can't you rent a self-store locker big enough for a car? I know I save enough in insurance and gas over the winter to cover my storage costs.

Re: storage tips????

Unfortunately storage isn't really an option right now. I have pretty cheap insurance, too, only about $50 a month (listed as secondary vehicle). Never thought about it coming down from the top, although I don't know if it is worse then coming in from the bottom (I have to park it in a bit of an indention), but has some circulation, or gets small amount from the top and is sealed in.

Only thing I have to add...I thought someone on here once said something about newspaper ***** in the exhaust, just to deter rodents from getting in there. I haven't done it but just a suggestion.

No, they can chew right through that. Hell...they'd make a nest out of it.

Use wadded up steel wool. That WILL stop them. That is what I have always used and I suggest that others use that as well when storing a car. 99 cents is cheap insurance.

Just curious, ive never had a rodent problem, but, it seems like people seem paranoid about this, can they even cause any damage in there? Id say a good wot will shoot anything they left behind and I dont think theyd make it past the exhaust valves. So maybe they could wreck your cats and o2 sensors but i think thats about it.

I dunno...small rodent making their way into the heads to nest? Good point, but still...99 cents is cheap insurance.
