Stock Bolts in Headers.... Part II
Stock Bolts in Headers.... Part II
Ok, it's been over 4,000mi since my SLP LT install. I did it myself. I used the stock head to manifold bolts on the install. No loctite and no lockwashers.
I have since driven across the country from CT to NM. I changed my oil and cleaned the K&N air Filter. Checked the header bolts and only two were somewhat loose. This is my first set of headers so I am otherwise unexperienced. I now notice the sounds of a loostening header bolt. Slightly more ticking in the front. I also had to rotate one of the clamps (drivers side) that connects the header collector to the cat. No more wistiling sound on decell.
As I stated in my last post like this, I am posting this as research. Hopefully to answer any questions. Headers and cars are different. So this may NOT work as well with other cars.

Re: Stock Bolts in Headers.... Part II
Its very common for header bolts to loosen up. You almost have to tighten them just as routinely as doing an oil change. My friend has a 00 LS1 and he got lazy and the bolts loosened up quite a bit. Needless to say he blew a head gasket right out while his car was in the middle of a dyno-tune session. We have since replaced the header gasket and installed the Stage 8 locking header bolts and have had no problems.
