Steering wheel column moves?

The dealer replaced the rack and pinion and power steering hose. Now when you push on the steering wheel column the steering wheel and column move forward and down to the left. If you let go it springs back up. It does not do this if you push on the top right of the steering wheel, only the bottom left. What is this?

Re: Steering wheel column moves?

I wanna wait for someone else to answer but I think theres a mechanism within the steering shaft thats collapsable that has to do with triggering the airbags. I'd like to know the answer as well...

Re: Steering wheel column moves?

If the column jacket (outside) is moving, they left some mounting bolts loose.

The whole assembly, column and steering wheel move together.

Look at some of the pictures in my ignition switch R&R how to on my Tech Page. There are 2 nuts under the column and 3 bolts at the firewall that secure the column. You may need to check those.
