I wouldn't say the scoop is useless.....i t does offer cooler air entering the engine compartment which in turn keeps the temp under the hood cooler!!!

OMG!?!

Ok.. done with my rant.
Take two same year cars. One SS one Z28 and run them. Odds are the Z28 will win at the strip while the SS would have an advantage on a road course.
All SS's start as a Z28 that then gets the addons: Spoiler, hood, larger wheels... Then some get more options like rear end (not gears mind you... Just the Zexel Torsen(sp?) differential) and some suspension mods were optional as well..
For the $, I dont feel its worth it. Others do. But car for car, they are essentially the same.. The main reason I state the the Z28 will be faster in a straight line is that you have better odds finding a stripper Z than a stripper SS.. Lighter and same power should give the nod to the Z..
I have a stripper Z with T-tops and Hurst but no other options.. So I dont have power anything or leather.. My car fully loaded weighs 3430. Not bad really. Power wise I tend to be on the higher side for the stock cars.
If you are asking so you know what to get, get the one you like best. You have to make the payments on it, so you better enjoy it.

W/ m6 cars there isn't any straight line performance diff, except the usual diff between cars and drivers. Granted the SS has a slight edge with a little better shifter. W/the A4 there can be more of a diff since the SS came w/3.23 gears and the Z w/2.73 (or there about), but 3.23s were an option.
The drive train is all the same with the exception mentioned above. Only exhaust or intake differences came at the added expense of getting the SLP optioned SS. Nothing an air lid and cat back can't fix.
All these cars are capable of some decent times, if you can drive them.

I have a 2000 ss m6. It has no power options, no leather, no t-tops, nothing but air conditioner. Is this what you call a stripper. No clue what the car weighs or what number in production it was. I wonder how many where made like that.

i thought the ss had some kind of freer flowing exhaust than the z28...(maybe worth 5 hp)?? I guess i was wrong. And i really don't see how the scoop is functional on the SS. But that's been debated way too many times before and is not really that important. What really cracks me up on the mustangs are those stupid things on the sides of the car behind the doors. It's like side panel scoops or something lol.
