Speed Limitor?

Does anyone know anything about a speed limitor on a 1994 Z-28 camaro? I've posted before about having problems with my car (see thread Car sputtering?) Basicly after reseting the computer car runs fine... I took the car out and on the highway got it around 85 and it started sputtering on me again (kinda like what a governor would do) and never could get it to go past 90mph. Plus after doing this the car just started sputtering at any speed 10mph and up. After reseting the PCM (computer) the car runs fine, no sputter until I try to go over 85mph again. Could I just have a problem with my computer or is there something else that would cause this?

Re: Speed Limitor?

The speed limiter came on cars that were not ordered with the optional Z-rated tires. It was about 109mph on the 94's if I recall. That's not your problem.

Sounds like the engine runs best when the long term fuel corrections are reset to "128", and then starts to deteriorate as the PCM "learns" and starts to alter the long term corrections. That would be the sign of the PCM getting bad data, typically from the O2 sensors. Bad sensors/wires, exaust leaks, misfires are possible causes.

Re: Speed Limitor?

He doens't have a speed governor problem. If you're asking how do you eliminate it on your car, you need to "reprogram" the PCM with software like LT1_Edit, use a hardware programmer like the Hypertech Power Programmer, or send your PCM to a mail order tuner like MadZ28 or pcmforless.
