Spark Plugs?

Is there really any such thing as a "Performance" spark plug? I've heard AC Delcos are the best to use on F-Bodies but what about the other plugs such as NGK Iridium/Platinum and Bosch Platinum (+2, +4, etc..) and Autolites....Are there really any differences between these plugs? Are ones better? Longer lasting? Bigger/Better sparkage? ( ) What brand do YOU use?

Re: Spark Plugs?

I've read the best 2 for 4th gen cars tend to be AC Delco and NGK TR55. I use the NGKs

Re: Spark Plugs?

I also have the NGK TR-55s, it is a very good plug at a very reasonable price.

Re: Spark Plugs?

you won't see any noticable gains from $10-12 plugs.

even though they may last 2x as long, they cost 4x as much as basic plugs.

stick with something like the NGK tr55....can't go wrong with $2 per plug

Re: Spark Plugs?

I've run NGK tr55's since I swapped from factory AC's and haven't had a problem since.

Re: Spark Plugs?

A non-platinum plug will only last about 30K miles. If you're not into changing your own plugs, this is going to cost you some $. For a relatively stock setup platinum plugs are a good way to go. For higher HP cars, the platinum plugs run hotter and are prone to cause pre-detonation. This is a good reason to switch to a NGK or Autolite plug. I prefer the Autolite as the NGK plugs have a screw on tip that can come loose.

Re: Spark Plugs?

Do the NGK TR55's come in various flavors, i.e. copper, platinum, etc? I thought I read somewhere that the NGK copper plugs, while not lasting as long, may give a hotter spark than a longer-lasting platinum version. True/false?
