Snow, ice and rain drops

i have the September '99 6speed that i love, love, love. She was given to me, i drove her off the lot new. i don't know all the stuff about her you guys know about your cars but i do have the speeding tickets to prove she well surpasses her numbers on the dial (at least on the "5" in California). My problem is that i am in Maryland now and she skids all over the road when it's wet or a light dusting of snow. These are new tires but not real wide. i panic when she skids, i can't help that, just happens and i let go of everything take my feet off all pedals & kinda freeze i'm so scared cuz i've had the helicopter trip to shock trauma once & it's not fun to do when you're conscious. Do i need different tires or what? i can't just stay home and knit socks.

What type of tires - Summer high performance (poor in snow and ice), all-season (better in snow and ice), snow tires (best for snow and ice)?

Wide is not good for snow and ice. Narrow is better. Best thing to do is get a set of four 225/55-16 Blizzak Ice and Snow tires, mounted on "take-off" stock wheels

Do not do anything in a hurry on snow and ice.

Re: Snow, ice and rain drops

My brother usually takes most care of the details with her, and he's in Afghanistan. He ordered the tires about a year or 6 months ago so they are practically new. the tred is squiggly not cut like i would expect snow tires to be. But i thought the guy at the shop that put them on said they were all weather. Studs and chains not allowed in Maryland. Someone just told me "forget the tires just put 300-400lbs kitty litter in the trunk" (you know, that non trunk where the T-top glass goes) because of the rear wheel drive.......is that true?

Some weight in the trunk will help. 300# sounds a bit heavy, but maybe 1/2 that would be a good idea. All-season tires should handle light snow. Its just the extreme torque that engine can generate at fairly low throttle position that makes driving a challenge.

All seasons are usually marked "M+S"
