SLP Hurst shifter v/s stock unit
SLP Hurst shifter v/s stock unit
Hello there. Does the SLP Hurst shifter have any shorter throw length than the factory installed shifter? I imagine it would be notchier but side by side to me both units look the same. Thanks
Pivot point is higher and I believe the shifter stick is also shorter. So yeah. Hurst + Lou's Short Stick is, IMO (from what I've tried, short stick, pro 5.0, stock, and hurst) the best f-body shifter out there.
from the factory...both shifters have the same stick
the hurst option has shorter throws
the stock unit has a stamped steel base, while the hurst has a billet steel (maybe alum..not sure).
i've measured the throw difference on my setup.
stock shifter and stick from 1st to 2nd gear was something like 8" of travel. hurst with the stock stick was something like 6" of travel. and with a Lou's Short Stick installed on the Hurst...the throws were 3.5"
HUGE difference. i can shift with my wrist, never taking my elbow off the center console.

The rubber isolator is in the base of the stick. The factory Hurst uses the stock stick with the big rubber bushing.
I had a factory Hurst that I picked up with a T56 from a 97 SS convertible. Side-by-side with my old Hurst Competition Plus, there was no comparison. The base of the factory Hurst was thnner material the the "real" Hurst. I don't think it was "billet". Neither was the original Hurst. Hurst later came out with a "Billet Plus". That one might have actually been "billet". Factory used the sloppy stock stick. Real Hurst had a solid metal stick, bolted directly to the shifter.
I sold both of them. Pro 5.0 seemed a lot better.

I have that exact combo as well... and yup shifting is quick, easy, and without a doubt much much less travel

I'd also recommend changing the shift **** too, the big ol cue ball is really also a disaster. I went with the SLP Leather ****, and couldn't be happier although you may want to look around as to what fit's you hand the best. Although I doubt you'll be disappointing with the SLP ****

slp hurst, LSS, MBA shift ****....so i'm even shorter
i personally like the feel of the round ****, and its black to match my interior with a Z28 engraving.
the MBA **** is designed to actually reduce the height of the **** location, they started the threads deeper in the ball.

John closed shop about 2-3 years ago, and I bet finding an MBA **** would be very expensive, if you could find one at all
yeah i know...i've had the **** for nearly 7yrs.
on my old LT1 with the LSS...it actually put the **** TOO LOW, it would sit about 1/16" away from the rear edge of the console when in 2/4/6th gear.
but the ls1 console is better
