Re: Silverado Motor Swap

Are you waiting for someone to say "put an LS1 in it!!" ???

Depends on how much time/money you want to spend. Do you want your truck back sooner or later? Do you want it to run with F-bodies (or Lightnings?) or just have a little more grunt? The 5.3L is a fine engine on its own, so why not just rebuild it and put in a different cam while you're at it and call it a day? It would be a lot easier than doing a not-worthwhile swap to a 6.0L or LS1 (IMO) which would require more changes / modifications, considering you're only talking a difference of ~20 to ~30 cubic inches.

BUT, if you've got lots of money to spend, then I'd have to vote for something along the lines of an LS6, or maybe a big cube LSx engine (can anyone say, "427"?) 'cause in a truck, bigger is certainly better! But hey, that's your call.

Re: Silverado Motor Swap

FYI, almost all Gen-3 GM V8's knock, our 4.8L tahoe knocks at times bad! especially when cold! I've heard the same from the 5.3 and 6.0, dont know about the 8.1L

Is it dying or ready to blow up?

This problem is SOOOO common there is a class action lawsuit going on against GM about it......

Most people just keep on driving the trucks for another 50,000 miles with no problems. They are just noisy
