Question Should i go T-56 or stay with A4?????

Guys and gals, after finally getting my new rebuilt lt4 installed in my 95 TA, it seems that the stock 4l60e has had it. I have had it checked and it needs to either be rebuilt or replaced. My question to you is this...Since my A4 has to come out, would now be a good time to do the T-56 swap on it? I have a friend that has a complete 1995 T-56 swap for $1000...Includes everything except the clutch....All pedals, T-56 with LT1 bell housing, slave cylinder, ecm, harness...everything. Would it be worth it to do the swap or am i getting into something that is too hard for the average mechanic to do? Any and all input is welcome...Thanks!

If you want a T56 the swap isn't hard. Except for cutting the holes for the shifter and clutch master its just swapping parts and some wiring. I used the A4 harness and there is only minor rewiring needed. Since the T56 harness is included you could use it but I think it would be easier to just use the A4 harness. If you have 2.73 gears you will need to replace them with 3.42 or better. If you have 3.23 you could probably use them. If you use anything but 3.42 you will need to have the T56 PCM flashed for the new gear ratio. If the manual console insert isn't included you will need to get one. They are discontinued and can be hard to find. This is a link to a swap guide. 4L60E to T56 conversion instructions for 1994-1997 LT-1

My guess is the cost for the swap and the cost for an A4 rebuild will end up about the same.

rngilliland, thanks for your input sir...after thinking on this for quite a while i think due to my clutch leg being messed up from a wreck years ago and my age, i am going to just stick with the A4....i think i may have found a decent deal on a used one but am not 100% sure it will fit in my 95 TA. it looks the same as mine other than the tail shaft...can anyone tell if it is compatible with mu car please? Thanks!

If you stick with your A4 change the torque converter to a 3600 stall and have the vehicle tuned.

4L60E compatibility:

LTXTECH Forums

Be sure to read all the way to the end of the first post. 95 is called a "stand alone, will not interchange with any other year", but appears you can play games with the PCM and the trans wiring to run a 94 trans in a 95. Beyond that, 93 is not electronic, and 96/97 have internal component differences which are difficult if not impossible to overcome.
