shorty spark plugs socket

now that i got my headers in , it is really easy to get to the plug but some of the plugs are still a little bit of a pain to get to with a socket and ratchet

will this help me out or will it be a waste of money?

if anyone has one let me know

bobby

Re: shorty spark plugs socket

It was the best tool I had for my LT1. I did all the plugs in a 1/4 of the time it took before.

And it really works? It took me like ten hours to change plugs on my LT1.

You also need to drill out the square drive end to about 1/2 inch. Put it in a vise to hold it in a drill press or if you have access to a lathe it would work better. Then you can use a wrench to turn them. Makes changing plugs a lot easier.

Right on Bro, SLP doesn't even charge that much. I made two of them from Craftsman spark plug sockets for about 5 bucks each. What a Rip Off. they do work good though!!

Re: shorty spark plugs socket

Do you have a picture on how to make one? So you drill out the end so the plug can poke through?

Re: shorty spark plugs socket

I took a regular socket and drilled out the part for the ratchet so the plug could go through and then grinded two sides to fit a wrench on. works great

cost = old cheap socket

It should help a lot. I have Hooker longtubes on my car, and I cannot even fit a regular socket on 1 or 2 plugs. I imagine that with headers of any type, it should be really beneficial. I just use a modified Craftsman 5/8" spark plug socket. I use a 3/4" ratcheting wrench on the end, though you can just use a regular open or closed wrench.
