service vehicle light

I searched and didnt see anything about this. in the lower right corner of the tach thereis a service vehicle light. Mine came on yesterday when I started my car. I checked my guages and nothing was unusual. I turned the car off and then restarted it. It didnt come on again.

Has any one had experience with this? What does it mean? I've got 65xxx miles on the car, I've only had it for 3 months. The oil was changed recently. Should I go to a parts store and see if its throwing codes? If it was the light should stay on right? I havent had problems the other times I've started it since. Thanks guys.

Re: service vehicle light

Sometimes it'll see codes and fix itself then turn the code off. Mine did this when I forgot to connect a hose, connected it, and 2 minutes later it went off.

If you are that worried about it, you could always get the car scanned as there is a chance it is in memory.

Aren't "service vehicle" and "service engine soon" two different lights? Is it possible its a change oil indicator? What does your Owner's Manual say its for?

Re: service vehicle light

Service vehicle light on my car is in the tach area, lower left. If it's staying off I wouldn't worry about it. Generally it's supposed to be for something non-emissions related. I've heard it can some on for something as simple as a burned out bulb somewhere, like a fog/brake light??? Don't know if an autoparts store can read those or not, since it's not an OBDII code. It should illuminate on start up, but go back off unless it sees a problem.

Re: service vehicle light

I;m not sure on f-bodys, but generally, the service vehicle/maintence , ect. light is set by codes in the BCM, not PCM(those set the SES)
