security light thread 200
well i looked but no clear answer on my question...my lights on all the time but the car runs and drives fine...i checked and cleaned the key...tried to clean the cylinder no luck...so i thought the connection inside the key cylinder was bad...so i removed the plug under the dash and checked the resistance there and on the key...they were the exact same....
so do i need a new bcm? if so does it have to be specific to my key or can i get one from another wrecked car i have or junkyard?
if its specific is there anyway to tell by the vin?

If your SECURITY light is on all the time but the car still starts up every time, your system is in "Fault Enable Mode". This means the system detected something wrong with the circuit after the vehicle was already started, so it figures something is wrong with the system, and NOT that someone is trying to steal the car.
Your most likely culprit is the lock cylinder itself. There are very small wires coming out of the lock cylinder that run down the steering column. These wires, after so many turns of the key, eventually break. You can take apart the steering column and check, or try putting the key in, unplug the connector at the base of the steering column, and check to see if it goes through. I tried to fix mine after it broke, but no luck, so I am getting a new one.
Good luck with that, SECURITY light sure can be annoying...

i think mine is on all the time even with the car off and no key in it...i pulled the plug and checked the wires they are still reading the key fine

Try here:

If your SECURITY light is on all the time, it could be a wiring problem, something shorted or grounding out.

my bad i read it wrong...it says its prolly not the bcm...it could be the TDR...is this a simple relay or special one? pics?
i found out what and where it was...grey on the side near glove box...i can try another one...

ttttt would this happen to be related to my air bag light at all...i cant remember now but they came on about the same time or the same time...scanned the car and it has a code for the clock spring i believe
also if it helps my security light used to flash on and off while the car was running and driving down the street...now its on all the time..
after looking through 175 threads i found out that every1 else since 05 has had the security light stay on because their key cylinder stopped working....since mine hasnt im not sure where to go from here...

This exact same thing happened to me. I drove the car with the Security Light on for a year and half, no problems. Im not sure what causes it, but I finally fixed it using a couple resistors from Radio Shack.
If while in the cylinder the key measures ok to the connectors under the dash, there still is wiring from there to the VATS module. If that wiring is ok, the module could be bad or there could even be a problem with the lead going to the cluster for the light.
If the above is true, you have a bad VATS module or wire problem to the cluster, plus some problem that is causing the dash to get power with the key off.
Everything else I know is listed on my Tech Page.
