security light
About a month ago the security lite on the gauge cluster came on in my 94z28.I made sure key wasn,t wet and i then cleaned it;the car did restart when i went to try it later in the day!My ? is did someone try to steal the car or was it something else? Then the other day i took vehicle to work and i shut car off while i pumped up a low tire and when i tried to start car nothing happens and the security lite is on again, but again the car starts after 3-5 mins, and the key was clean, dry etc
Any ideas,help,will be appreciated.

i would suspect the wire that runs through the steering column. it is very thin and breaks easily. the 96 monte carlo i had did that off and on for a while then eventually would not start. period. it connects the chip in the key to the security. not sure of the technical term for all this. anyway you can replace the wire or you can purchase another key switch and plug into the harness under the dash and bypass the security. replacing is a bitch but bypassing the security can be costly depending on where you live. i chose the bypass and it worked like a charm for about 2 years when i sold it. you dont have to have the keys with chips either. you can go to walmart and get a regular key cut. your choice about which one to do.
There are 14 different resistances that the key could have. You can check it with a volt ohm meter. You then can install a resistor inline to simulate the key. There are pages about it online.. how toos. Also, if you get your PCM programed you can disable "vats" and that will fix it..
