Angry Security light...

Damn security light has been doggin me for about the last week. Sometimes I'll be goin down the road and it'll come on, and other times I'll put the key in the ignition and it'll come on and no start, then I'm waitin for a while till it goes off. I did a search and didn't come up with much. I'm thinking the lock cyl must be going bad and not reading the resistor in the key properly sometimes. Anyone have the part number for the lock cyl for a 95 Z28 and know how much $$?

Thx,

Tony

i have a lock cylinder with two keys. The cylinder cost me $80 Cdn and each key is $35 Cdn, but then again the dealerships here like to rip us off. I thought i had a prob with my cylinder but it ended up being alright.

Im willing to send it for $30U.S. shipped with both keys, unless you want it express or something, then i'd need to look up the price.

I have been having the same problem for weeks. I tried to wire a resistor in harness under the dash but I must be retarded cause I cant get it to work. Actually unplugging the harness and plugging it back in has made the light less frequent!

Key is less than a year or so old.

I had the same problem. It was the eye that reads the key that went bad and not the key. I ended up disabling the VATS with my LT1 edit and then going into the passenger side kick panel and jumping two wires to disable the start kill part of the VATS.

Security light flashes all the time now, but no problems getting the car to start.

Fixed the security/no start problem. Apparently the key cyl is worn out and not reading the pellet correctly anymore. I measured the resistance in my pellet and got some resistors at radio shack and soldered three together that matched my pellet exactly and put them in the connector that goes to the VATS module and viola no more security light! It was getting so bad the last couple of days I was having to bump start it. Thank god I did the M6 swap earlier this year or I'd have been SOL.
