Roller Rockers Internal or Bolt-on Mod?
Roller Rockers Internal or Bolt-on Mod?
Ok guys I have heard some people say that the Roller Rockers are a bolt-on mod, others say that RR's are "going internal" and I have heard others say that its a "grey area." So... what does everyone else think? Bolt on or Internal?
Re: Roller Rockers Internal or Bolt-on Mod?
It's under the valve cover, so it is internal to the engine. Seeing that you should change springs also (if you go with a higher ratio rocker), that does not sound like "bolt-on" work to me. Not that it really matters on way or the other.

So for instance, if Shon does have RR's is he still a bolt-on only car? If he doesn't then he could possibly go faster if he put them on. Either way, I'm just curious cause I figured that it would be an interesting debate.
Re: Roller Rockers Internal or Bolt-on Mod?
That brings up the question of heads as well. If I took some AFR's straight out of the box and "bolted" them on my car, is it a bolt on?
The reason I ask is because when I first got into the hobby it was explained to me that a bolt on was anything that could be undone. Now that I've really gotten into it I realize how vauge that is.
My thought on RR's though, I'll say bolt on.

Re: Roller Rockers Internal or Bolt-on Mod?
I agree with if it touches oil, its NOT a bolt-on. I think it'd even be difficult to call an intake manifold a bolt on..
Or how about this, GM sells their crate motors with internals, minus intake or accessories. I'd say anything that doesnt come on a crate motor is a bolt on, or something that the engine theoretically doesnt need to operate. (like it could work without an intake, if you happened to have fuel and air making its way to the heads, but it could never work without rocker arms)

Re: Roller Rockers Internal or Bolt-on Mod?
Everyone def has some good points. Since this is my thread I guess I should have an opinion. I'm leaning towards they aren't bolt-on because they are underneath the valve covers and they touch oil. However, they only get you like 8rwhp and they are easy to do, so that kinda makes me think bolt on. However, I am going to say that they are internal.

Thats what I meant, that's why I said it was so vauge. But when I first got into the hobby, I didn't know any better.
Unfortunatly I've probably done or thought even worse things than that since then (air condition weight saving mod in southern Louisiana, anybody). You live and learn......and sweat.
