reverse lockout solenoid
reverse lockout solenoid
nothing seems to be going right. i cant catch a damn break! one week left before the whole reason i wanted a nice car as a teenager: PROM, and nothin is going right. now the reverse lockout solenoid is being goofy. the fuse blew and caused the reverse lockout to stay on (making it incredibly hard to put in reverse) i replaced it and drove it for a little while, now it blew out again. any ideas? what else could possibly go wrong!? (sorry for the complaining, but why does this have to happen now?)
Re: reverse lockout solenoid
The reverse lockout solonoid is in the "locked" position by default. It only unlocks when a current is applied to it.
I would suggest getting an ohms meter on the solonoid and checking the resistance of it. If the resistance is too high, that would indicate the part has failed and nees to be replaced. I'm sorry I dont know what the proper ohms reading should be on a reverse locoout solonoid. Maybe another member has that info??
Also, it is possible with a little force to push the shifter past the lockout, even if it is not unlocked. Forcing it past will not damage the components.

Re: reverse lockout solenoid
There are multiple items on the same circuit as the reverse lockout solenoid, including the skip shift solenoid, the EGR vacuum solenoid and the EVAP purge solenoid. And on some years that fuse also serves the O2 sensor heaters, and even the signal to the fan solenoids.... not sure about the 96.
