resetting odometer?

I'm getting ready to do a dash swap in my '94 Z with a '97 cluster and figured I'd get the most hits in this forum. I want to send my cluster out and have the odometer reset to the proper mileage and tested before sending it off again to granatelli to get the 200 MPH conversion. Anybody know of an auto electronics place that will reset the odometer in the cluster? Mine has a digital built in...

i imagine that's probably something not a lot of people want to touch. im sure you need to keep some kind of documentation about that kind of stuff....

Re: resetting odometer?

Odometer fraud? Did you even read my first post? I'm not looking to reset my odometer to zero or anything, I want to set it to match my current odometer in my current cluster since I have to change when I do my dash swap! Be careful with your choice of words...I'm no con!

Re: resetting odometer?

i was wondering the same except on the roll type odometer i bought a instrument cluster with the 150 speedo to change the 115 and my odometer always sticks in the hundred column so i thought i would just change the whole cluster.

The cluster i bought has 197 000 miles and my car only has 84 000 how do i re ajust it so it says 84 000

Re: resetting odometer?

that's illegal. No one will do it unless it's a hush hush operation for mucho $$$$. Now if you're just talking about switching odometers from one dash to the new dash, you should be able to do that yourself with some screwdrivers and a soldering iron.

Easy fix is just to remove the glass piece and roll it back to your original mileage.

Re: resetting odometer?

Ask at the dealership. They have the ability to reflash your computer with their TechII and reset the mileage. That's what they do when a customer comes in with a broken cluster. But they will only set it to the actual mileage shown in your PCM.

Re: resetting odometer?

It's only illegal if you change the mileage to something that is not correct for the pure intention of falsifying vehicle mileage for profit or benefit. Like turning back ana odometer 100k miles less than it truly is, etc. I used to work at a dealership...the mileage info for the cluster is stored in the cluster itself, not the PCM. We had to send out clusters to get the mileage changed when we swapped out faulty ones. If they had analog, all you have to do is carefully remove the mileage 'pill' and swap it out with the old one. Did that on my '86 when I swapped to a 145 MPH speedo.

The mileage issue would have to be taken care of by an auto electronics shop. Problem is I dont know one. My cluster says it has like 80-something k miles on it and my car has 123k miles...I want the mileage to be accurate. If I'm gonna do the dash swap, I'm gonna do it right!

So do we know if they can do it? IF so then I'm gonna let them do it to my Digital cluster I purchased, however I wanna know for sure...So I don't send this baby off to Granatelli for their 200MPH Conversion for nothing...
