Replacing A/C compressor
Replacing A/C compressor
I'm going to attempt to replace the compressor in a few days. I just wanted to know how hard it was to do so. Any advice in changing it? What would I need to take off to get to the compressor to get it out?
Remove three bolts on the front of comp. and one one the back.
Also remove the bolt that holds the lines A/C lines on.
I also removed the belt tensioner to make room to get the comp. out.
Just wiggle, twist, and pull it out from the front.
Reverse the order to put it back together.
I just did it two days ago and it was easier than I thouhgt.
BTW make sure your new comp. has the correct oil and amount in it.

Im about to do this to my Z as well. Just did it a couple times to my beater. The first time the front seal blew out because I put too much pag oil in
Hopefully its as easy as Ryanzee says, because it looks like a bitch to get out...
You should be safe with adding 2 oz. of oil to new compressor if that is the only a/c component you are replacing. Also it is a lot easier to remove compressor if front sway bar is lowered down by taking the 4 attaching bolts off, no need to mess with the end link bolts just the inner 4 bolts so sway bar can be moved around.
Thats how I did it and has worked fine for 2 years now. Make sure you have system vacuumed with a vacuum pump before adding refrigerant, I purchased a vacuum pump from a pawn shop for my repairs because a new one is usually no less than $400 for an electrical powered one. One problem with finding a vacuum pump at a pawn shop is that it is now alomst summer time and they are in big demand and will be hard to find, it took me like 15 pawn shops before I found one and got a great deal on an electric one.
