Replacing Brake Rotors

ok both front brake pads need to be replaced . And it looks like one rotor is ok and one is bad. the bad one i will replace. But this is my question is it not good to replace just one side on the front . will i get any shaking or virbating beacuse i have differnt rotors on being one new and ones old and a little worn . ?

or should Both be replaced ?

Also will a pad all the way gone cause abs inop light to come off and on The pad is grinding into the rotor made a big grove ?

Thanks ,

Re: Replacing Brake Rotors

Go ahead and replace both rotors while you are under there. Trust me, unless you want to change one at a time for the next 15 years...do them both now. The ABS Inop. light shouldn't come on for a pad. It could be anything. Those things are REALLY touchy.

Good luck man, brakes shouldn't take you more than an hour. Its pretty easy on our cars.

Re: Replacing Brake Rotors

Do either of those have a lifetime warranty? IMO, go to autozone, by some of there carbon metallic pads (like $25.00). When they wear out the next time, take them off, and return them for a new set, free of charge! I usually just go to autozone and get their pads and their rotors. If you don't want anything fancy, just hit them up. Easy, and pretty cheap.

Re: Replacing Brake Rotors

I can def vouch for the autozone rotors (amico's if I remember correctly) I had problems on my 99Z with the front rotors warping @5000 miles or so. After the 4ht set of factory POS ones, I bought the amicos. 40,000 miles later, they're doing fine!

Re: Replacing Brake Rotors

hey guys what about rear rotors, i see they're pretty expensive, arund 70 bucks each. Mine are uneven , they look smoth but when I touch them I can fel they are kinda ruff, should I just get them turned, or buy new ones, are the autozone ones just as good, I don't want to spend al osrts of money to have them go bad.

Re: Replacing Brake Rotors

If i was you i wouldn't dump any money into the crappy LT1 brake setup especially when the LS1 set up is so cheap. Here you can get some with rotors turned all you would need is the pads. You can get pretty much a complete setup for $150 and its 10x better than the LT1 setup. The LS1 set up has bigger rotors, dual piston calipers and i believe more pad surface area.

I got my LS1 set from this seller they are an Fbody salvage yard. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...RK%3AMEWA%3AIT
I didn't win my set but i emailed them and offered to buy a set for the price on this auction. I got them shipped to my door for 165. I reused the pad and rotors and it was still better than my LT1 stuff. I ended up buying CAMARO decals, paint, brake cleaner, brake fluid, and other small parts and installing this setup for less than $200 all together. I love it.

Re: Replacing Brake Rotors

I didn't bleed my breaks at all when I changed mine. If you do bleed the breaks, you only loose a timy amount. Its nothing to be concerned about. You may want to top of the resevoir after, but it is a super tiny amount. Just buy a bottle, and you can have it setting around.

Oh yeah, you may already know this, but I would feel better if I said it anyway. Make sure you clean the rotors before you put them on. They come with a coating that prevents flash rust. Take some Break Clean, or some rubbing alcohol, and rub them down. If you don't your pads will gum up and you wull be doing it ALL over again really soon.

Good luck man,
BIZ

Re: Replacing Brake Rotors

Don't worry about the bleeder screws. Just take the cap off the resevoir and squeeze them in slowly. It might be a good idea to rap a rag around the opening. You may lose a little, but its much easier than messing with the bleeders. Then just top off what little came out. Usually you will only get a few onzes of overflow. Its a pretty strait forward job.

Good luck man.
