replaced fuel pump..now it hesitates..help!

Hey guys, I thought I would try and solve my starting problem (won't start until I crank it about 5 times and then let off and start it again) so I replaced my fuel pump with a used holley pump. The thing was screaming when I plugged it in to test it so I know it works. Here is my problem now...I went to drive it down the street and when I press the gas hard the car sputters and hesitates...which I am guessing means that it is not getting adequate fuel. I did have trouble making the plastic cover over the fuel pump stay seated and glued, and the pump that I bought did not use any rubber gasket or anything at the bottom where it drops into the stock plastic case. The top gasket I used from the stock pump and it seemed to seat well, but I dont know how well. Also, it seems like there is a lot of hussshhhing going through the gas lines where i cut out the trap door...almost sounds like the gas is mixed with air. So I guess my question is...what the hell did i do wrong? or could the problem be elsewhere now that I have a high-flow pump? I am going to be screwed if I can't fix this problem myself because I hate bringing it to a shop to fix what I already tried myself.. Any help would be appreciated!! Oh, by the way...it didn't fix the starting problem..Now I am thinking fuel pressure regulator?? ANybody?

Why did you put a used fuel pump in? It's a PITA to change so you should have just ordered a new one. Maybe the pump is going bad. Did you change the filter too?

Wonder why people sell good race parts for cheap?

Go out of the tank pump...

agreed, why risk a used electrical part? also. when you say you "tested it" you let it run out of the tank without pumping gas through it? thats another bad idea.

a fuel pressure test would be helpfull. but other thoughts that come to mind is a comtaminated MAF mimicing a low fuel volume condition

we are giving you sugetions.. filter, MAF, etc etc. if you wnana make sure that the pump is ok do a pressure test. if you emiminate that your fine. we are just trying to help educate on what could be helpfull. Used electronic parts are generaly a bad idea. Like someone I helped with a LT1 no spark. it was teh opti. he bought a used one.. then got mad when it didn;t work. blamed me. re ran the test and the opti was bad. orderd a kit from autozone. I told him it would not work. did it anyway and blamed me again. fianly bought a brand new delco unit and it fired right up. we say these things for a reason. cause we have been there. I have several used parts on my car. but some are just not worth the time of installing.

Nobody was bitching at you, just questioning your decision.
