Removing underhood insulation?

My insulation has a burn/mouse ate part of it...Looks like ***. At the track Ive seen most other Fbodys have already removed the insulation. Is there any downside to removing it? Such as does it help in the winter? Will removing it help lower temps under the hoods? Will it damage the hood paint?

No downside that I'm aware of, I think it's just there to help with the noise from under the hood - my '02 Z28 didn't have any from the factory

The SS and WS6 hoods do not have insulation. Does not seem to affect the paint. The fiberglass construction of those hoods will reduce heat transfer through the hood, compared to the standard steel hoods, but the inside surface of my SLP/WS6 hood is painted w/ clearcoat, same as the top of the hood, and its still just as shiney 8 years after it was painted.

I doubt that removing the insulation will affect the under hood temps too much. There's just way too much heat coming off the exhaust system, and out of the back of the radiator. I found that there was a nice reduction from removing the big rubber gasket that seals the hood to the cowl, but that lets a lot of water in, a lot of it falling directly on the PCM.

the insulation is for noise and water only, not heat in any way.

I agree.............did the same on my Corvette..............it does make a difference....................and I have a cover over the PCM that prevents water from dripping on it.
