Remote keyless entry...

Hey guys, quick question... Just got my 1996 Z28 and the remote entry doesn't work at all most of the time... but occassionally the lock does... but for the most part nothing... So I have to use the key to get in... and i have to start the car in like 4 seconds or the panic goes off... Any suggestions? I have fresh batteries in both of my remotes... but still nothing!!! Thanks

probably the contacts
you can take it apart and clean them every so often or just get new remotes
you can find new remotes on ebay pretty cheap

How hard are they to take apart and what size batts do they take?

And to take it apart, jsut pry them with a flathead screwdriver?

i've never done it but it seems like the only way to do it is like you said, pry with a flatheaded screwdriver
the contacts will probably just need to be wiped off or something and i'm not sure but...the battery number might be on the battery itself

My remote did the same thing, I would have to hold the buttons in for 5 seconds before it would lock or unlock. After taking it apart I discovered it had condensation inside which I dried with a soft cloth and sprayed the contacts with CRC contact cleaner. I replaced the battery with a 2032 battery and now it works great!

well i just replaced my batteries. the manual said 2016 for the size. so that's what i got. your best bet would be to use rubbing alcohol. get all the corrosion and moisture and stuff off.

the horn doesnt have to honk, you set it how you want it. look in your owners manual, and if you dont have one, goto shoebox's website, he has one in pdf format to download.

Re: Remote keyless entry...

My keyless does the same thing. Works sometimes but not others. Turns out it isn't the remote... i cleaned the terminals and put in a new battery and all. The problem is actually the harness that goes into the keyless entry module has a bad connection somewhere. The box is behind the passenger side kick panel. Sometimes it'll act up and i can pull the module out and wiggle the harness a little bit and it'll work fine. Either that or beat the crap out of the panel so it wiggles the module enough to make it work. My problem is that the harness is in there as tight as it'll go... i guess it's just one or more of the wires in it have come loose. One of these days i'm going to pull it and reset all the wires in the harness a little deeper so they'll make better contact.

If all else fails pull the module out and work with the wires to make sure all are making good connection.
