Relay chattering????
Relay chattering????
Hey guys. On my '94 Z, I have a strange issue that just started yesterday. When the car is idoling in P, N or D, you hear this weird clicking type noise. That's the best way I can describle it. Clicking or chattering. It's loud inside the car. Sounds loudest on the drive side dash area. WHen you listen with the hood open, you can't hear anything. Close the hood and you can hear it from outside the car. Sounds like it's coming from below the driver side windshield wiper. It looks like the black panel below the windshield wipers has been removed before before due to screws missing. I've looked in the car, under the car and everywhere. I'm stumped!!! Any ideas? It sounds like a relay chattering to me. Everything works fine though. Oh, when I turn on the AC, or fan in general, the sound tones down. It also stops completely when I give the car some RPMs.
not sure by the vagueness, but there are multiple relays (wiper relay, main relay, flasher relay) that typically reside under the dash. im not sure on your car because frankly i have never looked under there or had a problem with any of these systems (knock on wood), but if you here something inside more than out, i would recommend getting a light and tucking yourself down under the dash when the noise is happening and feel any exposed relay (again assuming there are any under there) and see if you can deduce a little better where the noise is coming from. i am sure someone will post that might help you better, this is just to help get you started. good luck, and let us know if you find anything else.
