Regular gold-I mean gas

Many people will notice knock when running on regular. The stock LT1 compression ratio is 10.3:1 which works well on 91+. The only way to know for sure is to hook your car up to a scanner and monitor the knock/spark timing on different octanes.

I tried regular gas in my old 1995 z28 LT1 and it ran horrible, it knocked like crazy, that was the first and last time...thank goodness i didnt fill it all the way up
I have never tried regular in the LS1

i was in the middle of nowhere one time almost out of gas and the station i stopped at, their premium was 89.5 octane so i had to put about 5 gallons worth of that garbage in there and yeah i could feel the difference for sure, felt pretty flat in the higher rpm which i can only assume was knock retard
dont do it, its not worth it, you will probably receive better milage on premium compared to regular since pulling timing not only kills power, but lower efficiency which kills milage

Since gasoline prices have been rising I've seen this topic pop up a few times (I'm suprised no one has chimed in and said use the search function), I think the general consensus is run the fuel your manual recomends (91 octane) and that if you can't afford to run the car you should look into getting something different

ive been running both for about the past year, i switch back and forth every month and have had no issues at all. no knock, no performance loss and the same mileage. but when i run 87 i use motorkote. motorkote makes an oil ,power steering, and transmission additive which improves efficency and better performance. i run those all the time. they also make a fuel additive which cleans your tank, lines, filter, and injectors. and it only takes 1 ounce for every 2 gallons, so it lasts a long time. this stuff is great and also boosts your octane by 4. i highly recommend it.

If you can't afford the high octane gas, then you should probably be riding a bike. Honestly, I know gas prices are pretty ridiculous, but it's not that big of a deal.
We have what, 15 gallon tanks? If regular is $3.85 and premium is $4.15, that's only $4.50 extra per fillup on premium vs regular. Skip McDonald's one day a week and you'll compensate for that spare change.
Octane boosters are a joke, you'll spend $6 per fillup to boost your octane to that of premium, when you could have just bought premium for $4.50 extra in the first place and saved $1.50.

I actually bought a little Yamaha enduro bike this spring and I still have my Camaro . . . and my full size extended cab 4x4 . . . but the bike is loads of fun and with mileage around time approaching 70 miles per imperial gallon on an engine with about 600 miles on it so far I'm almost laughing all the way to the pumps
