rear view mirror light stays on

Hello,

In my 96 trans am, my rear view mirror lights are staying on. when I close the door, normally the light stays on for a minute and then fades out. now its staying on unless i unplug the battery. The lights are definatly in the off position. I guess something is stuck somewhere.

any ideas?

Thanks.

Try opening and closing the hatch.

The interior lights are turned on by the door switches and the hatch switch shorting to ground. It isn't unusual for the door switches to corrode and short. Pull each of the door switches out, so they can't ground to the chassis, and see if the problem goes away.

Did you open and securely close the hatch?

Then you have a short in one of the wires that connects to the door switches or the hatch switch. I had that happen when a shop put a couple bolts through the hatch well liner, into the rear sheet metal, bolted down a nitrous bottle clamp, and crushed one of the wires to the hatch switch or the overhead light (can't remember which it was).

same problem

slap the dash board or hold down the power windows and then slap the dashboard on the side of the heater and cd player is and on top.

It goes away but comes back in 20 min.

Take the bulbs out, thats what I did.
