rear end

Is a 93 trans am rear end a direct swap for a 99 z28? Will the 99 z28 brakes bolt up as I believe there larger? Does anyone know the gear ratio of a 93 trans am 6 speed ? Im guessing 3.42. Thanks Boz

Re: rear end

Factory rear in a 93 with an M6 is either 2.73 (GU2) or 3.23 (GU5), depending on whether you have the M28 or M29 version of the T56. 1993 is the only year with those M6 trannies and rear axle ratios with the M6. 1994 and up use the MN6 version of the T56 trans w/ the 3.42 (GU6) rear gears.

Direct bolt in depends on whether the car has ABS only (all V8 1993) with 3-channel wheel speed sensors, or ABS+TCS (TCS was not available until 1995, and was an option, meaning the 1999 could be either ABS or ABS+TCS) with 4-channel wheel speed sensors. If the 99 has TCS you could use the 99 axles with their reluctor gears, and use the 99 backing plates with the sensors.

The 1999 e-brake setup is also different, so you pretty much have to keep the 99 brakes, or it gets messy.

I'll move this to a "tech" forum.... The Lounge isn't the best place for tech questions.
