Rachet shifter for automatic

Am I mis-remembering or didn't my 85 Z-28 have a rachet shifter? Seems like it did and it was pretty handy for controlling the auto trans during moments of acceleration. I would like to have one on my '96 SS if it would fit. Anyone know if it will work? Thanks.

Not familiar with the 85 shifter.....

You can physically install a ratchet shifter, but it's going to be fighting with the PCM's electronic control of the 4L60E - just like fiddling with the stock shifter.

I have a B&M Pro-Ratchet mounted in a stock Firebird M6 console... but it's controlling a TH400 with a manual valve body.

My 85 Z28 didn't have a ratchet shifter. My 75 Camaro did have a stock shifter that allowed you to upshift one gear at a time by pushing it to the right as you upshifted. I traded my 75 for an 82 Z28 and that feature was gone.

Re: Rachet shifter for automatic

I had a B&M on my 73 TA. That worked great with the TH400. Maybe I am wrong but I thought for sure it was my 85 Z-28. I remember the little plastic sliders in the shifter path, similar to the 96. And the hole was wider to allow you to push it to the right while shifting up. I hate it when old age interferes with your memory.
