Question on what my cousin should be running
Question on what my cousin should be running
My cousin has a 1994 Formula Firebird and he claims it is stock. I have a 1996 Camaro z28 not much done to it but my best time in the 1/8th is a 9.46. My cousin with his "stock" firebird is running 9.1s in the 1/8th. I don't get this seeing as my car has more stuff done to it and his has 10 less horsepower stock. Can someone tell me if he is lying about being stock i am guessing he is. I need to know what a stock 94 firebird should be running in the 1/8th.
How good of a driver are you? When I went to the track with my M6 I could only muster a 2.4 60'. (Yeah, I suck, don't rub it in too bad). It may be that he is a better driver then you. Which car has what transmission?
His car is pretty close to what a stock LT1 A4 f-body should run. Are you guys racing at the same track? If not and if he is in a different geographic location, that will play a part. Also, it may be that your car is not in the best of mechanical shape or you may simply need to improve your driving skills a tad. So to answer your question, it sounds like he is being truthful when he tells you his car is stock.
In the 1/8 mile the LS1 doesn't really have an advantage over the LT1 because the race is usually over at about 80mph, which is where LS1's have the advantage and would start to pull hard because of better head design and flow. I beat a few H/C LS1's last summer just because my LT1 is more of a low end car. I would rape them out of the hole but they would start to catch up towards the end of the track, but I would always cross the line just before them cause its such a short race. This is why 1/8 mile times are similar while 1/4 can vary .5-1 sec.

You say your car has "more done to it", but what specifically??
And IIRC, my stock LS1 runs into the 8's (~8.6 or so) in the 1/8th mile.
Which gears do you and your cousine have? 2.73's and 3.23's are both options with an A4, so maybe he's got the 3.23's where you've got 2.73's?
And like was mentioned, CONDITIONS are a BIG factor. My LS1 has run everything from 13.0's to 14.1's at its "BEST" on different days, and it's not been my driving
(if I know how to run a 13.0, then there's no excuse for running a 14.x ... it's obviously the conditions
).
Line your cars up side-by-side (at the track, of course!!
) and see what happens. That's the ONLY way to know for sure.
