I know LS1's will bend pushrods from the mechanical overrev, LT1's might too

I wouldn't worry too much about it, I accidently downshifted into FIRST trying to go into 3rd and she was alright.

Re: purely hypothetically speaking shifting ?

I powershifted into second from third one time while racing another car, and that was around redline when I shifted. I only left it in for a split second, but it was enough to drag the tires pretty good. Doing it around 4.5k or so can't be near as bad as doing it at redline.

Re: purely hypothetically speaking shifting ?

i did this not to long ago but was racing and went from 2nd back into 1st at redline, missed third, some say that the computer should lock you out going almost 70 mph, but mine and several other peoples dont, and it hit the peg past 7000 on the tach. but anyways, i heard a big loud noise, and later discovered i ruined my whole posi unit....the repair was pretty pricey....

done it a few times before going 3-2 instead of 3-4. probably didnt do any damage but you can bend pushrods like that.

Ive done it... just like you I had the clutch on the floor within a spit second. Didnt appear to hurt anything, but it definetly scared the s*** out of me considering my uncle spun a bearing in his '70 AAR cuda doing just that I just REALLY wish that lockout thing would work.

Re: purely hypothetically speaking shifting ?

A few years ago at the track I was shifting out of 3rd at 6K and hit 2nd instead of 4th scared the crap out of me. It had to have hit around 7k for a second. No problems whatsover afterward though and this was on the original stock valvetrain. I wouldnt be too worried about your car if it still runs and drives fine. The LT1 is put together pretty tough internally, If you messed something up bad you'd hear it quick.

Re: purely hypothetically speaking shifting ?

your ok I would think just don't do it 3 times a day. lt1 is pretty strong now a ls1 would have bent 3 pushrods like a preztel. GET A SHIFTER

I always wondered why GM never used the technology of skip-shift to lock you out of dangerous missed gears like the ones stated above, rather than just that annoying 2nd gear lock out. For example high tps voltage, high tach signal=no dowshift! The technology is there dammit! Do something.

They really should have done that by the time they went with the LS1/6. I bet GM has spent a lot more money fixing LS1/6's still under warranty than they would have ever spent installing a simple feature like that.
