Pulling up front tires

My buddy's dad has a 68 Chevelle, with a 502 (I believe that it is the 502hp 502) in it and a 5 speed. He says that the first time that it was pulled it out of the shop he revved it up and dropped the clutch and it pulled the front tires in the air. This was on the street with street tires (fairly skinny ones too, although I don't know the exact size). Is that even possible? It seems to me like it would just spin before it pulled the tires. My buddy has a 4-banger nissan pickup that could pull the tire if he kept gassing it and letting out and got it rocking, but that is a little different.

So what do yall think could he pull the front tires up on the street in street tires?

Re: Pulling up front tires

Seems doubtful with street tires. Maybe he was stuck on a bunch of gum so the car couldn't move?

Hard to believe on street tires (especially skinny ones).

Re: Pulling up front tires

That is what I was thinking. I told him that I didn't hink that it was possible, but I wanted to check with some of yall that are a lot more knowledgeable.

Thanks
