Unhappy Pulley and Tuning?'s

I want to know what type of horsepower can you gain if you changed your
pulley? What all do you need? How hard is it to do ? What type of tuning do
you recommend? What about the hyper-tech tuner? Is is worth the money?
I want to do all "EXTERNAL" mods:
1.Lid
2.K&N
3.Granetelli MAS
4.High-flow bellow
5.GMMG exhaust

I have a '99 30th Annv. Trans Am w/21,000 miles and I want to keep it mostly stock with those minor mods. No LT headers,no torque converter,no NOS,no LS-6 Intake change,no gear change,no head and cam swap,no supercharger and no engine change like the LS-2. ALL STOCK!

Re: Pulley and Tuning?'s

forget the MAF and bellows...they won't gain you any power.

go for the SSRA, lid, k&n, pulley and exhaust

and a custom tune from either madz28.com or pcmforless.com they will gain you MUCH more than the hypercrap.

as for tools for the pulley, nothing crazy. but you'll need a pulley extractor

Re: Pulley and Tuning?'s

They had an article in GMHTP, I think it was under "Project Blue Thunder", they installed the underdrive pulleys, they didn't expect anything, but it produced a gain of around 25 RWHP.-Worth the $ in my book. As far as the Hypertech tuners, I'm clueless. They also had a recent test article in GMHTP (I'm an avid reader) where they plugged the Hypertech tuner into a near stock 2K1 SS and the driver was pleased with the results. Anyway-Hope that helps

Question Re: Underdrive Pulley and Computer Tuning?'s

I appreciate it because your info. is much needed. How hard would it be to change the underdrive pulley? Is it a noticeable seat in the pants difference?

Re: Pulley and Tuning?'s

I think the only pullies that need to be changed are the Alt. and the crank pulley. You may be able to get away with cracking the ALT pulley nut loose with the belts on. If not, a thick leather welding glove and an impact gun works fine. The bottom crank pulley shouldn't be too hard, I believe one center bolt hold the pulley on and three point pulley puller to yank it off. You'll need a new ACC and A/C belt with it too. Hope that helps.
